To have been welcomed by both Rose and Jim into their home and their lives as we have been this last month has been a wonderful experience and we know we have some very special friends in Austin, Texas ;)<br />
<br />
David and I arrived in Houston Texas on Friday 14th March. First time on American soil after a long flight we were faced with a taxi driver who couldn't find our hotel. We successfully clocked up a taxi fare of $100 as we drove round in circles and up and down the interstate highway .<br />

<br />
Next day we boarded the all American Greyhound Bus and left Houston for San Antonio. Really impressed with the bus travel both cost and comfort were superb and we even had free wifi on board - I was able to Face Time home and show the family the big trucks on the highway as we sped along :)<br />
<br />
We spent a relaxing few days in San Antonio and stayed at El Tropicano Hotel on the River Walk. Lots of walking and eating and relaxing, just what we needed to recharge our batteries.<br />

I had ladies from Hawaii, California and Georgia amongst other places - we are so impressed with how you guys travel you are just 'awesome'!!!<br />
<br />
David was and is such a valuable addition to the class an extra pair of expert hands at the ready with help and advise and never a dirty mandrel in sight ! Expert demonstrations on finishing and gluing the cabs into finished pendants and ring toppers using his ring topper and pendant backs ensured that everyone went away with the skills and knowledge to make their own at home.<br />
<br />
On the Saturday night after class I gave a demonstration to the Austin Fire Fly's and am now the proud owner of my own T Shirt which officially lets me join the club !<br />
<br />
We were so very sad when it was all over and it was time to come home leaving Jim and Rose was mighty difficult but we have made a promise to be back .<br />

Given that last month brought, sleet, snow, hail, ice, wind and (a lot of) rain it was a real delight to have the entries filtering into the mangobeads inbox. If you haven't already, take a look at them on our <a href="http://pinterest.com/amanda_muddimer/apricot-sunshine-bead-competition/">Pinterest Board</a>.<br />

David and I have seen the booth from which I will be "lampworking live" (!) three days a week, and it really is a brilliant space. Most of what I make there during the week will be for sale in the Dartington Crystal Gift Shop. <div>

When we woke up this morning, both the sky and BBC weather told us the rain wasn't going to stop all weekend. By 8am, a severe case of the winter blues had descended on 57 Gloster Road, the rabbit had already had two sneezing fits and we were almost out of Earl Grey. That was, until a little ray of apricot sunshine emerged from the kiln in the shape of a one-off ring topper commission.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
After many "likers" and comments on Facebook, we've decided to launch an Apricot Sunshine Bead competition judged by Anita and Elias at <a href="http://das-unikal.blogspot.co.uk/">Unikal Glasdesign</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Here's the idea: Create a bead or a collection of beads that are predominantly apricot yellow (for the commission bead Effetre Special 591419 was used).<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The closing date will be 25th January, so when Christmas has passed in a blur, you've tossed out the last of the tinsel and you're 100% sure it really is just wrappers left in the quality street tin, there's still time to get making. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Email your entries to info@mangobeads.co.uk<br />
<br />
Once we have your entry, we'll add it to the <a href="http://pinterest.com/amanda_muddimer/apricot-sunshine-bead-competition/">Apricot Sunshine Bead Competition</a> Pinboard on Pinterest.<br />
<br />
We'll also be adding more images to the <a href="http://pinterest.com/amanda_muddimer/apricot-inspiration/">Apricot Inspiration</a> Pinboard all the time, so if you're in need of any inspiration, head on over.<br />
<br />
<b>First Prize</b>: a Pair of Japanese Tungsten Tweezers.<br />

As many of you know we're working hard behind the scenes on a number of new products for Mangobeads.<br /><br />Creating new products takes time, especially as we're keen to source all our materials and trades as locally as possible.<br /><br />We take pride in the fact that all our mandrels, bead liners and of course beads come directly from North Devon. We take time to not only source good quality materials, but to ensure that anything we cannot do ourselves is done to the highest specification possible ensuring that the finished product is of a high standard.<br /><br />Amongst all the new things we are working on I think the most exciting is our bracelet and range of accessories for interchangeable poppers.<br /><br />The last two months has been a real test of determination for us as a small business. We struggle to get any manufacturer to consider the quantity of goods we are able to commit to in any one production run as a serious proposition. This makes our small batch runs both expensive and slow as we are not considered high priority.<br /><br />But, this aside we have an excellent local engineer on board and although frustrating at times we seem to be winning.<br /><br />The bead liner has been a great success and we are working on another batch to be ready for The International Festival of Glass later this year. </div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
There are some things it's just too difficult to arrange in this country and one has to look else where for certain components, and this has been the case on the popper front. We are in the process of having our own designed and manufactured abroad, and are keen to make our own system rather than to import a lookalike Noosa product from another country. </div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
With regards to the bracelet we have again been looking for a local company, one that has the facilities and tooling we require. We think we have found such a company and will meet with the MD hopefully in the next week or so. We have drawings /samples of our designs and hope for a positive response. We also hope our design will offer a variation on the typical bracelet available, it will again be made from high quality materials sourced locally and ethically produced.<br /><br />After 50 + emails, and Skype interviews we are awaiting our second set of samples, and the good news is I have been invited to China by our suppliers KG who find me "energetic!" I think that's a compliment. Apart from this there is also the sickle stones (a tool that can be used to grind the back of cabs).<br /><br />In other news, this week I have also spent far too much time convincing a supplier that Barnstaple is no longer a port. The mental exhaustion has been intense, but it's a process we have to go through. We have to order large quantities as well as ensuring that we get what we want, and that the quality is up to scratch.</div>
<div class="bloggerplus_image_section">
</div>
<div align="center" class="bloggerplus_image_section" style="clear: both;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQyR-e_a-bnDJFcTMcpYF0bb0ZYUDVFwCIz9R6pWCeuZvBa2hps0RtXZ8UvbMdDboY9orpzMSRFpalBNntfoIIOZcBgnfTMusNrOPTknkUS-Qxzamku-lqTh2dMxh1AJAi1oJYKWbIZHA/" /></div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
<br />So, things are progressing even if a little slowly. We have a good supply of "naked poppers" for Lampworkers and craft people, and our cab mandrel supply will be replenished tomorrow.<br /><br />I am in the process of writing a bite-sized tutorial on how to make glass cabs suitable for the poppers. This will include the use of the cab mandrel, its preparation, the finishing of the Cab and preparation for gluing etc.</div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
I hope you have enjoyed your little "Behind the Scenes" insight into what we have been up to. </div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
It can be very frustrating both being a and living with a perfectionist (that's two in one house), but I hope that now you see although we are perfectionists this hasn't been our only problem. <br /><br />Wanting to maintain high quality, have things ethically produced wherever possible and at the right price when you're only a small business can be quite a challenge. <br /><br />Thanks for reading, and too for all your continued support.<br /><br />Manda and David </div>

Five weeks has flown by since Flame Off 2012, and what a wonderful experience that was. Demonstrating alongside Patti Walton, Claudia Trimbur-Pagel, Emma Mackintosh and Jan Rigden Clay was a truly amazing experience and one I never will forget. I truly don't think bead making can get any better than that, it has to be the highlight of my career.<br /></div>
<div align="left" class="bloggerplus_text_section" style="clear: both;">
I was also asked to run a class the day before and that was possibly the best part of the whole experience. It was the first time I had taught a technique based class and it was great fun and very much enjoyed by the 10 lovely people that attended. It's a class I would love to run again some time in the future. </div>

I was approached while at Flame Off by a friend who asked me to make her a popper for a belt she was wearing. And then...She introduced me to more friends...And those friends wanted some too...Now you see where this is going? </div>

I have been selling my "pops" through my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/mangobeads" target="_self">EtsyShop</a><br /><br />We have located a supply of poppers which are also available for sale.<br /><br />Our very own cab mandrel happens to be the exact size needed to make compatible shaped cabs for the popper we sell.<br /><br />It's still very much work in progress, but it was time to update you all as I am aware that some people will be wondering what's been happening since Flame Off.<br /><br />I'm hoping the poppers will appeal to sewers and knitters as well as collectors of jewellery. The popper we sell comes with a socket base with holes all ready to be sewn onto fabric or knitting .... It's a great adaptation to the traditional popper.<br /><br />If you would like to know whether my "pops" will fit a system you have then please contact me.</div>

Time to rectify that I think :)<br><br>As many of you know David and I took over a small workshop 18 months ago. We now have a 10 station lamp work studio where we host our own workshop and invite visiting tutors to teach here in North Devon.<br><br>I won't deny it's been a tough 18 months, apart from the usual business related problems I gave up my days at home and became a full time working girl at the studio. <br><br>Sadly it meant I also gave up a lot of my bead making time, it also took away for me the spontaneity of my creativity as I have had to plan my bead making around deliveries, workshops and general business related stuff. <br><br>In January this year I can truthfully say I was feeling uninspired and a little sad and sorry for myself. I Love the workshop and everything it brings us but I seemed to have given up my life to it and was beginning to loose site of where I was going with my bead making.<br><br>Having had so little time to make beads the selling side of things has really fallen for me such a sharp contrast to how things were when I first started silver coring back 4 years or so ago. <br><br>So with Flame Off looming and the prospect of being a 2012 demo artist very much on my mind , we decided something had to change :) <br><br>Because my bead making time had become so precious I had started expecting a lot of myself in the few short hours I could manage at the torch.My designs had become big and complicated and had a high failure rate which added to my despondency .</p><p class='bloggerplus_text_section' align='left' style='clear:both;'>So I decided to go back to a set of beads I made back in 2008, they were aptly called at the time 'Folklore' as the colours and design were very reminiscent of canal boats, and Romany gipsies. Having kept the beads I decided to return to the colours and designs I had tried out then ..... </p><p class='bloggerplus_text_section' align='left' style='clear:both;'>We also decided to put a torch back in my old workshop and clean it up. We removed the cob webs and the toads that had moved in, stocked it with glass and lit up !!</p><p class='bloggerplus_text_section' align='left' style='clear:both;'>Now I can make beads in the evening and at weekends as and when I want to. Its just lovely to have my own bit of space to be creative in again.</p><p class='bloggerplus_text_section' align='left' style='clear:both;'>So most mornings I shall spend at the workshop and then I plan to come home keep up with the housework and make beads again :) utilising my time much more effectively.</p><p class='bloggerplus_text_section' align='left' style='clear:both;'>Now I am sure you will have noticed that I am accumulating a few of my 'Folklore' beads :) This is in anticipation of Flame Off in April this year. I will be releasing these beads at the event and they will then subsequently be available on my web site :) </p><p class='bloggerplus_image_section'><div class='bloggerplus_image_section' align='center' style='clear:both;'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw2YqFanhXiAt3bDzRHZUt8XcWYQJHvvA-dkld05lMzta75o-XXWN0_FFhc0obJN2NnRQ2Ps3JD9yyfXIVmAwSGUh9J9diz6RCFEdgXcrBpKGNghtitcQP1AZZdIQBA_8-v16sg_Xsj_4/'></div></p><p class='bloggerplus_text_section' align='left' style='clear:both;'>I have had lots of lovely lovely comments on them and a huge amount of interest and encouragement, so thank you all :)<br><br>So it's just to let know that the Mango behind Mangobeads is still here and shes looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with her bead making.</p><p class='bloggerplus_image_section'><div class='bloggerplus_image_section' align='center' style='clear:both;'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRFiEiYaraVwXqG1nf1Gg2TAHTVtptlVqZpiuuQbnUABOkUSAx2G9Nk5RJAun45RdPf5Tkf2V84qR1Kr07fcBIQPUmpudq95Um41ZTsU8T6FSB0BkylrmtdyV_sN08-Ms_hgTnewFp2Nw/'></div></p><p class='bloggerplus_image_section'><div class='bloggerplus_image_section' align='center' style='clear:both;'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdDpNJPL7TBV8Bk1vA1Hs7wTvJnvjHUJP1gIWpACeNVvz7m6TiN5mKYTr7Zmz7HY0g02pdogEK6MCIghfiBzQrlGmAqg5VFP8GRE2VZmKi8F7d2B1EQWu6avlb_AU-AlQv-hbUuL27uKk/'></div></p>Mandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11897980092638273609noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4546583771380089510.post-53330980989294170562011-05-21T18:15:00.001+01:002011-05-21T18:22:06.071+01:00Mangobeads Bead Liner<div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">As some of you will have seen from Sue’s (Blue Box Studios) post earlier yesterday MangoBeads are up and running with their coring station prototype.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Yes it has taken a long time and we have been talking about it for what seems like an age! <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"> I think that what we have come up with demonstrates our commitment to our press and the finished product it is capable of producing.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">We have utilized our combined experience and knowledge both in lining beads and engineering to design a press system that will enable you to line beads beautifully.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Our finishing dies are unique to us they have been designed to give a professional finish to the edges of the silver significantly reducing the chipping factor on your beautiful beads!<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Because of this unique design of the dies ‘problem’ (large, long, tall, bumpy.sharp) beads can also be lined.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">As with any tool it is important that it is used in the correct way to minimize risks and eliminate problems.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Although our system is virtually fool proof we still (of course) recommend one of our Silver Coring Tuition Day. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">The days course will not only cover all the necessary details and give you access to more tools and experience (including direct links to all suppliers of tubing, correct sizes for mandrels etc.) but you will be able to purchase the press and take it away at a reduced price and ……… wait for it<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Attending the course will give you access to Full Technical Support and After Sales back up from David!!!!<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Our Flaring dies are being manufactured as we speak and we are awaiting delivery of the Arbor Press (the top section) a commercially available tool, which has been held up due to the problems in the Far East.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Once these issues are cleared up we will be ready to go </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Wingdings;">J</span><span lang="EN-US"> <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">The press will come initially with dies to line 4/5mm beads. We are developing dies to line 6mm, 9mm and eventually 12mm beads, these will be available to purchase separately at a later date.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">We are hoping to retail the press at around the £220 mark (£185 if purchased whilst attending a course)<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">We think we will be the first press to be available within the UK and hope that this and the design of the press will be of benefit to all :)</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Mangobeads have recently developed our own range of <a href="http://www.mangobeads.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=26&Itemid=1&vmcchk=1&Itemid=1">mandrels</a>. Designed to make making Big Hole Beads so much easier. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">The beauty of these mandrels is that the arm of the mandrel remains 3mm while the bit at the end is 5,6,9 or 12mm.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Centering glass on these really is so much easier than on a mandrel that is 6,9 or 12mm down its entire length.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Wingdings;"></span>The beauty of the mangolos is in the width of the bead. I try to keep them very slim so they hang beautifully. Doughnut shapes are a no no!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: auto;"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US">The push to move forward I have to say came from my partner David who having come through a degree in Glass Blowing has a very different approach to my work than me who came to glass bead making 6 years ago after a career in childcare and bringing up babies!! …. No forward planning push or drive other than to just melt glass.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US">Nothing wrong with that at all, but I have really enjoyed pushing myself beyond the bead and having for the first time to work out a technique for myself.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US">Challenging is most definitely what it has been. ‘Take the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mangobeads/4725004860/in/set-72157623456971525">Harlequin Beads</a> that step further, I know you can do it ‘! ‘Yeah right “ <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US">But I did it and it worked! <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US">The failure rate for someone that likes a full kiln of beautiful successful beads at the end of the day has been massive. The despondency, lack of motivation, and infuriation the failures have provoked has on occasions been hard to take </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Wingdings;">J</span><span lang="EN-US"> <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />

This worked just fine but inevitably meant a lot of glass needed to be ground away before the cab could be set. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US">So we developed our first cab mandrel, at the moment in just one size, but it has made the process easier. Each one still comes out differently shape wise, and David still grinds away a lot of the design to achieve the correct shape for setting. but the process is easier than working on the end of a mandrel.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-US">Finding colors that work together and that can take the heat of having the clear glass pulled down over the top of the design, keeping their definition and neat clean lines (which of course I have to have </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Wingdings;">J</span><span lang="EN-US">) has and is an ongoing source of despair. That’s why there’s a lot of purple as it works brilliantly for impact.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span lang="EN-US">The last stage is the most crucial and it’s this stage that can put half an hour’s work effortlessly into the water jar </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Wingdings;">L</span><span lang="EN-US">. To make it worse, I'm suffering from a complete lack of creativity at the moment.<br />
<br />
<div>
Today I was indulging myself with a play day in the shed and 3 hours later there was <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">zilch,</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">nada, nuttink</span> in the kiln. What a waste of valuable time. Panic is starting to set in as its now half term which greatly reduces torch time anyway. Absolutely no point in crying over spilt milk, I shall eat chocolate instead. None the less, here are the pictures of the beads just loaded onto the site.</div>
<br />
<div>
Plans for the new workshop are coming along nicely and we hope to be moved in on 29<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">th</span> March, and running courses by July with an Official Opening on 11<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">th</span> September (so get that in your diary), a fun few days of glassy goodness is promised for the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">occasion</span>. I am in the process of booking exiting people to come do workshops for us, something we have not had <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">the</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">luxury</span> of in this part of the country before.</div>
<br />
<div>
I am pondering over which glass to stock at the workshop, this glass will be available for sale by the rod which I hope will benefit newbies to the world of <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">lampwork</span>. I'm not planning to sell over the website as there are already lots of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">webbie</span> glass suppliers, I'm wanting to be more of a local <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">resource</span> for people down here and those who come for lessons.</div>
<br />
<div>
Should I stock <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">CIM</span> or <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">Effetre</span>? My dear friend Julie suggested <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">Plowden</span> and Thompson Glass which is UK made but I am quite keen to stick with <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">COE</span> 104 which they don't do (unless anyone can tell me different).</div>
<br />
<div>
Please vote so I can stock the best for everyone...</div>
<br />
<div>
I have bought a fabulous Disc Cutter which I am very much looking forward to trying as we want to do capped beads with silver cores as part of the workshop. There seems so much to do at the moment which is probably effecting my Bead <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14">Mojo</span>, I guess I am maybe trying too hard.</div>
<br />
<div>
Happy Valentines to everyone, eat chocolate and be happy ... xx</div>

I am having a Ebay Auction for the DEC Haiti Earthquake appeal. We all struggle at times like this to know what we can do to help the victims of such an unimaginable disaster on this scale. I hope my Victoriana Focal will have you all reaching deep into your pockets. If it does then 100% proceeds will go directly to the appeal and you will win the most beautiful Victoriana Focal bead. So whats stopping you? Go and take a peak, the Auction goes live at 9.15 tonight!</div>

I'm at last catching up with 2009! September and October now available on EBay, November and December will follow before too long. </div>
<br />
<div>
In case you are wondering what I am on about, I produced one bead a month for 2009 with individual engravings on the side making them very special little beads. Most of them show the development of my Victoriana bead through the year. You can view my EBay Shop <a href="http://shop.ebay.co.uk/mangobeads">here</a></div>

<br />
<div>
2009 for MangoBeads has been very exiting. I took the decision to concentrate on a few bigger shows and not do so many of the little ones meaning there would be more time for the web site in between.</div>
<br />
<div>
It meant completely revamping the stand and generally sharpening up the Mangobeads image. </div>
<br />
<div>
On the whole it has worked really well. I was lucky enough to get a place at The Contemporary Craft Fair at Bovey Tracey in June, albeit a cancellation I was thrilled. It was a wonderful opportunity and a challenge. We met some wonderful people and had a very successful show.</div>
<br />
<div>
I moved on from there to Exeter Cathedral Green for a two day event a few days later and can say that with the combination of absolutely horendous weather during Bovey (which we were camping in) and the camping experience on Cathedral Green the following week exhaustion really did set in. </div>
<br />
<div>
The summer was a quieter time and we managed a camping trip again in the rain to South Devon. The summer saw the start of enormous website problems which were all very unfortunate but probably unavoidable. The website has now just been rebuilt and works around a different E-Commerse solution, which will be able to cope with the stock control issues Iwas experiencing with the old site.</div>
<br />
<div>
November was a busy month with a second big fair in Brighton (MADE 2009), this was another huge success and one I hope to repeat in 2010.</div>
<br />
<div>
I am very happy with the sucess of MangoBeads during 2009. Although its has been a tough year with lots of hurdles to overcome, I have met some wonderful people and have some wonderful customers old and new, quite a few have become friends and all the support I recieve from you all is invaluable.</div>
<br />
<div>
So onwards to 2010 with the Mangobeads SALE, and a website that works yipeee! New tools have arrived and there are lots of exiting things planned for 2010.<br />
<br />
We have had a fab Snow day today and are bracing ourselves for more tomorrow !</div>
<br />

....Once again no good news but I hope it's getting nearer, the resolution of Website issues that is.<br />
<br />
For those of you not sure whats been happening it's all down to stock control issues.<br />
Zen Cart (the shopping cart that I had) simply <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">couldn't</span> cope with two or three of you lovely people trying to buy the same bead at the same time. It repeatedly sold more than there were in stock despite setting the limitations. We thought the problem was solvable when a Zen Cart expert in the States wrote new coding to kick the shopping cart into gear but alas it threw it into even more of a head spin, consequently I had to take it offline as Stock levels were increasing as you bought the beads!<br />
<br />
So...as a result, Zen Cart its an Evil word in my house, the site is being rebuilt around <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Joomla</span> with a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Virtuemart</span> shopping cart.<br />
<br />
Its nearly there, just a few glitches and it will be ready to roll! I shall be doing a cosmetic once over in the New Year but just to have a Web Site will be oh so good !<br />
<br />
So in the meantime I have stocked the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/Mangobeads"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Etsy</span> Shop</a> with beads and hope that maybe there will be a few more beads on the new site in time for last posting day which for me is Friday.<br />
<br />
So Christmas at <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Gloster</span> Road has been put on standby shopping will commence tomorrow, I hope to even order a turkey!<br />
<br />
I just wanted to bring you up to speed on whats been going on - 2009 for the web site has not been a year I wish to repeat!<br />
<br />
On a change of subject, today has bought some really good news. I have been accepted into <a href="http://www.craftsatboveytracey.co.uk/">The Contemporary Craft Fair </a>for the second year, but this time I am really chuffed as I was excepted from selection panel. Previously I was offered a cancellation, and three years previously I applied to no avail, so I am well chuffed.<br />
<br />
Here are a few new beads that have gone on <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Etsy</span> ... enjoy :)Mandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11897980092638273609noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4546583771380089510.post-73296397170466179182009-11-30T13:49:00.010+00:002012-11-24T15:05:18.499+00:00Mangobeads HQ<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicfybbNO6C-GSqFpUh4i3IFjTQVqGc1MFZ6smd9ouRzrPXbxZ1Uja3CqxaWn-5isP7D5OnKkZfMNnHd5Td_W2eA6bX9DsRs367sIBor_6pt58FwAj4l4nI55LCaIU0r0GTlIbxlldIj5k/s1600/IMG_5093.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409898613864490850" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicfybbNO6C-GSqFpUh4i3IFjTQVqGc1MFZ6smd9ouRzrPXbxZ1Uja3CqxaWn-5isP7D5OnKkZfMNnHd5Td_W2eA6bX9DsRs367sIBor_6pt58FwAj4l4nI55LCaIU0r0GTlIbxlldIj5k/s320/IMG_5093.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 320px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 214px;" /></a>It's official, Japan has taken over my kitchen! To say we are working under extreme circumstances would be a severe understatement. At 9 am this morning both <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">excitement</span> and energy levels were running high, at 5pm this afternoon tempers were frayed and verging on easperation! I think it might be time for a bigger workshop! Recycling packaging is all well and good until the kitchen floor resembles crazy paving, and the kettle cannot be distinguished under biodegradable chips and sticky brown parcel tape. The fragile sticky tape is now across my brow and we are relaxing over a nice cup of tea!<br />

Japan has been contacted for reinforcements which will soon be on their way.</div>

<div>
Wow, what a day! I managed to get some new beads up on the site <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">in between</span> pricing a huge box of tools that arrived from Japan. I'm not the best with numbers and dealing with Yen has been challanging to say the least, luckily I have a wonderful mum to help me out!</div>
<br />
<div>
What lovely tools they are. If I decide not to keep them all, they will be available on the site tomorrow alongside possibly a few beads on <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Etsy</span> - we'll see!</div>
<div>
<br />
I have had such lovely emails from people I met at Brighton, customers and other <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Lampworkers</span>, it's always so lovely to meet people face to face. I love that part of the business and would never only sell through the web, I would miss the contact with all you lovely people!</div>
<br />
<div>
I have another Fair this weekend at <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">RHS</span> Gardens <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Rosemoor</span> (<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Torrington</span>) Friday and Saturday 10am - 4pm, so there is no rest for the wicked !</div>
<br />
<div>
I have decided for those of you that know Benjamin that he needs to diet, just how to rabbits get fat? He legs it round the house up two flights of stairs numerous times a day, lives on a veggie diet of carrots and bunny nibbles but is <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">definitely</span> overweight, surely all the cardboard he consumes can't be fat inducing?.. And hes starting to sneeze again so another round of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">antibunnionics</span> is on the horizon! </div>
<br />
<div>
A few bead pictures and off to bed -still <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">haven't</span> quite recovered after the weekend yet, it was such a great show, we will certainly be back if Brighton will have us ! </div>

We are here at MADE 09 in Brighton, its difficult to remain vertical in the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">gail</span> force winds but we're here none the less. Brighton is great, we're staying in a little B&B just off pier, we'll manage to get to the end of it by the end of our few days here I hope. Our little walk round planned for this morning has been postponed due to the horrid weather.<br />
<br />
The show opened last night with the Private View lots of talking looking and some buying which was good. I got to meet up with Amanda <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Glanville</span> of <a href="http://www.earringcafe.co.uk/">The Earring Cafe </a>(who is here selling) and <a href="http://www.judithjohnston.co.uk/">Judith Johnson </a>who dropped in to visit us. We dipped into a rather natty noodle bar just over the road from The Corn Exchange for a bite to eat and a good chat after the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">PV</span>, it was lovely to see you Judith!<br />
<br />
I managed a few photos very quickly yesterday of the stand but there will be more to follow, when hopefully there will be time to draw breath at some stage.<br />
<br />
As usual there are some lovely people here and lots to see and do, so if you find yourself in Brighton come visit MADE 09, open today 11- 7.30, tomorrow 10 – 6 and Sunday 10 – 5pm.</div>
